Day 6 – Final Analysis, Another Crash, Detours Everywhere

Day 6 – Final Analysis, Another Crash, Detours Everywhere

As we sit at the airport to go home, Jerry is telling Tim his version of events:

For me, I think it is simple: We expanded our ride with new people and they turned out great. New blood:

Larry: Bank guy by trade…Wells by night
Wayne: Healthcare guru by trade…Brackee on the trail
Phil: Suntrust guy by trade…Stud on the bike

Their titles don’t tell the story. We were riders in the storm this week and that is all that matters. It has been an amazing ride and while this is my second time…I am still amazed with the varied scenery, bridges, tunnels and vistas. Some additional video before we recap the day:

Our first rearview video while on the back-side of the continental divide. If you remember, this is 24 miles of downhill bliss. Look Mom…no hands!: (Audio-Downhill going home)

First video out on Day 6 – C&O Lock: (Audio-If you could be for real)

Second Video out on Day 6: (Audio-Lullaby Baby)

Third Video out on Day 6: (Audio-Bad but Good…take me home baby)

Last Video out on Day 6: (Audio- Time to get home with Tush)

Tim crashed on one of the many detours. The C&O is besieged with wash-outs and the detours abounded every 5 miles. On one of the detours, Tim took a fall:

C&O was closed at one point and we had to contract a shuttle to move us to the open location. Free 10 miles. Nobody was protesting…just saying:

Railroad Tracks in Harpers Ferry:

Debris was bad on the C&O. Nothing new for us:

By the way, Tim’s first car was a Chevrolet Vega. Worst car on the planet as he explains. I found this article on the internet: “But even worse than the Pinto, many readers insisted, was the Chevrolet Vega. This compact, meant to take on imports like the Volkswagen Beetle, actually won honors as Motor Trend’s Car of the Year for 1971. It sold well. Then the body started to rust. The aluminum engine started to warp. There were engine fires and mounting recalls. Horrified buyers fled, and General Motors killed the car by the late 1970s.”
